The basin planning application is expected to be released during the late part of 2018. It will be the most complex and time consuming application within the project. The overall concept is to utilize a water resource model (MIKE HYDRO Basin) for evaluation of plans, without the requirement of having detailed knowledge of the specific model.

The application will allow the user to:

  • Upload an existing model which will be converted into a baseline plan
  • Create alterations of baseline plans by modifying existing investments or adding new investments. These are investments decision makers want to apply within a specific plan. Currently investments are limited to water supply, irrigation scheme, other type of water supply, hydropower, reservoirs and storage. Investments are described as objects in the water resources model as water users, hydropower or reservoir nodes.
  • The user are also able to specify external factors as climate change and population growth. The external factors influence the model in different ways as they impact either the climate or the water demand.
  • Review existing plans through viewing or analyzing specific indicators
  • Depending on resources a MCA and a CBA will be included.

More information on this development will follow.

The back-end part of the basin planning tool is currently being tested within the Chao Praya and lake Victoria basin using MIKE Hydro Basin models previously developed by DHI. A number of additional indicators will be added to the tools as part of the testing and validation.
